Objectives K-5:

To provide students with tools for the development of self-efficacy and educational success.

Objectives 6-8:

To motivate students by providing them with CSUCI student stories and experiences
To inform students of A-G requirements, college entrance exams, GPA requirements, California systems of higher education, and financial aid.

Program Availability:     Fridays      10:30am—1:30pm         Limited to 50 students

Program Agenda:

The entire visit will last approximately three hours. A Cal State Cannel Islands representative will greet the group and escort them to their assigned room. The representative will give a 30-minute presentation to the students. Depending on the grade level, the depth of the discussion will vary. A 45-minute tour will follow the presentation. Topics/stops on the tour may vary depending on the day and time students are on campus. Following the tour, there will be an opportunity for students to have a picnic-style lunch. You must bring your own lunch.

CSUCI Responsibilities:

The coordinator will schedule visits, reserve a classroom for the presentation, provide confirmation of scheduled events and ensure that a CSUCI representative is scheduled to host each visit.

Responsibilities of Visiting Schools:

A school official must complete the online registration form and schedule a date for a campus visit. A school official(s) must accompany the students throughout the entire visit. There must be one school official per 15 students. The visiting school provides transportation and lunch/snacks. Students are returned to the control of the school official(s) immediately upon conclusion of the program.

Evaluations:

A CSUCI representative will provide an evaluation form to the school official/escort to complete. We ask that the forms are dropped off before the group departs campus.

Accomplishments:

The University Outreach Program is an opportunity during the school year to provide enrichment and motivation to elementary and middle school students who have been limited in their exposure to the college experience. It provides students with the opportunity to take an active role in pursuing a postsecondary education.
